MoMo Every Month: The Missing Piece for Cameroonian SaaS
A few months ago, I wrote about the MTN Mastercard coming to Cameroon (s'ouvre dans un nouvel onglet). It wasn't groundbreaking tech, but with MTN rolling it out, almost everyone could finally pay online.
Still, I called it "meh" for builders. Everyone could spend, but not every builder could get paid. We don't have Stripe or Paystack, where you plug in your app and start collecting money the same day.
So we went back to basics: what payment method does the average Cameroonian have, use, and trust? MoMo.
A few companies now make it possible to accept MoMo in your app. But if you're building a SaaS, one-time payments aren't enough. You need people to pay every month, and that's the biggest hurdle for any SaaS here. With a card, customers subscribe once and forget. With MoMo, someone has to come back and approve a payment every month.
The joke is, we already treat our cards like that. Every month you load money onto your MTN card before Netflix can charge it. So asking customers to approve a monthly MoMo payment isn't a big leap. The real problem is on the builder's side: creating payment requests, sending them to each customer, following up, and waiting.
That's the problem we've solved.
Connect your app in five minutes, and we take over collection. We send payment links to your customers on WhatsApp, Telegram, email, or SMS. If they don't pay, we follow up. We even call them. (Automated calls are coming soon.)
You never see any of that. All you get is a webhook when a customer pays, the same experience a builder in the West gets with Stripe. We stay in the trenches so you don't have to.
We've been testing this with abuna.app, and the lesson is clear: when what's behind your paywall is solid, people check the link and pay.
Your only job is to build something valuable enough that people want to pay for it every month. We handle the rest.
We're starting today. It's free to try - https://abuna.app (s'ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)
